The home side will be aiming to win their second league match in succession, whilst Real Madrid will hope to continue their LaLiga record for consecutive away victories.
Real Madrid enter this contest having won four LaLiga games on the bounce, whilst knowing that victory this afternoon will reduce the deficit to table-topping Barcelona to five points. They comfortably beat Eibar 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu last weekend, before beating Fuenlabrada 2-0 in the Copa Del Rey on Thursday.
A 2-1 away victory last weekend against Deportivo La Coruna secured Girona’s first three points in the league since late August. Francisco Aday and Cristian Portu were on the scoresheet as the Catalonian club moved up to 15th in the table. They suffered a 2-0 defeat to Levante in the Copa Del Rey on Thursday, however, which has given them an uphill task to qualify for the next round ahead of the second leg next month.
A victory for Zinedine Zidane’s side this afternoon will continue their LaLiga record of consecutive away victories. They are currently on 13, a tally they will be confident of increasing having played their best football away from the Santiago Bernabeu so far this season.
