We're underway at Stamford Bridge.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Chelsea and Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
It's the first flashpoint of the season between two sides that will be competing for the title until the bitter end of the campaign. Chelsea will be determined to get one over on their rivals in the early stages of the season, capitalising on their home advantage.
The Blues come into the contest fresh off their impressive win over Atletico Madrid during the week in the Champions League. Antonio Conte's men came from behind to stun the Spanish side as Michy Batshuayi scored at the death to hand the visitors the three points.
Chelsea's league form has been solid since their surprise opening-day defeat at the hands of Burnley. They've won four out of their five matches since, only dropping two points at home against Arsenal. Conte will be desperate for the victory this afternoon.
Manchester City will have seen the result of their bitter rival United this afternoon and will be aiming to respond to draw level on points.
Pep Guardiola's men will have to beat Chelsea without the services of their key man Sergio Aguero. The Argentine suffered injuries in a car crash in Amsterdam during the week, which would rule him out of action for a period of time.
City had to battle hard to beat Shakhtar Donetsk during the week, but goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling secured the win, despite a penalty miss from Aguero. Guardiola's men have been on fire in the Premier League of late, although they face a sterner test against the Blues than their easy victories over Watford and Crystal Palace.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
Chelsea subs: Pedro, Batshuayi, Zappacosta, Kenedy, Caballero, Willian, Moses.
MAN CITY (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph; De Bruyne, Fernandino, Silva; Sane, Jesus, Sterling.
Man City subs: Bravo, Danilo, Gundogan, Mangala, Bernardo Silva, Zinchenko, Toure.
Conte has made two changes to his side from their win over Atletico. David Luiz serves the second game of his suspension and is replaced in the backline by Andreas Christensen, while Antonio Rudiger comes into the side to replace Victor Moses as Cesar Azpilicueta moves to wing-back.
City's one change from their win in midweek is enforced due to Aguero's injury. Sterling replaces him in the line-up, moving Gabriel Jesus into the central striking position. Fabian Delph continues in his new role at left-back due to Benjamin Mendy's injury.
FLASHBACK! Chelsea won this contest 2-1 last season thanks to a brace from Eden Hazard. Aguero did notch an equaliser for the visitors, but Hazard scored his second after missing from the spot to secure the win for the Blues.
The players are out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
HALF-TIME: CHELSEA 0-0 MANCHESTER CITY
It's goalless at the break at Stamford Bridge, but Manchester City dominated the opening 45 minutes against Chelsea. The Blues could have gone ahead early through Alvaro Morata but he headed wide of the post. From that point the Citizens took control and threatened through David Silva and Fernandinho, with both players forcing saves from Thibaut Courtois. City had moments on the break as well, but their final ball was not good enough at the critical point.
Pep Guardiola will be satisfied with his side's performance, but will want to see a killer instinct in the second half. Antonio Conte will be concerned as his team were outplayed and are now without Alvaro Morata for the second half after he was forced after 35 minutes. A crucial 45 minutes awaits for both teams.
The players are back out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
FULL-TIME: CHELSEA 0-1 MANCHESTER CITY
Manchester City earn a huge victory this evening to join Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table. Pep Guardiola's men dominated Chelsea from start-to-finish and unlocked their defence with a moment of brilliance as Kevin De Bruyne scored a stunner in the 67th minute. The Blues did not have an answer for City's pressing and possession game, failing to test Ederson in the contest. It's a huge moment in the context of the season for the Citizens, claiming the scalp of the reigning champions on the road. Guardiola will be hopeful that it will act as a springboard for the rest of the campaign.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
