Vidal has only been only the pitch for a matter of seconds, but he becomes the ninth player in the game to be shown a yellow card, this time for time wasting.
90' +1
We’re into the first of three minutes of added time now and the home fans raise the noise levels once again in a push to try and give their side one final lift.
89'
Aleix Vidal enters the game and replaces L. Suárez.
Ernesto Valverde makes his third and final switch now, presumably in an attempt to run down the clock as well as sure up the defence, with Aleix Vidal coming on in place of Suarez.
87'
André Gomes enters the game and replaces Sergi Roberto.
A second change for Barcelona now and it’s Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes who comes on, replacing Roberto.
86'
WHAT A CHANCE!! Barcelona really should wrap this game up as Coates gives the ball away to Messi midway through his own half giving the away side a four-on-one, but having been played in on goal by Messi, Paulinho is unable to beat Patricio, poking the ball straight at the Sporting keeper who does well to get out quickly and close the angle down.
84'
Messi shifts the ball onto his left foot and shoots towards goal from 25 yards out, and although his shot is blocked the ball deflects away to Suarez, who is not interested in looking forward and instead rolls it backwards to ensure his side retain possession.
82'
Lovely footwork from Carvalho who skips away from a couple of players close to halfway and looks to slip Dost through on goal, but the striker doesn’t have the pace to get to the ball before Umtiti, who has had an excellent game.
80'
Paulinho enters the game and replaces Andrés Iniesta.
Another change for Barcelona now and Iniesta is in no rush to leave the field, with Paulinho coming on in his place to try and help see out the remaining minutes.
79'
Chance! A half-chance for Sporting as Dost peels away into space and knocks a cushioned header down towards Carvalho just inside the area, but the ball is just behind the midfielder who is turning away from goal as he shoots, and can only fire his left-footed effort over the bar from 18 yards out.
78'
The home fans certainly still believe that they can get something out of this game and their side are not giving up on the pitch either. This game is a long way from being over.
Minute
Description
76'
Roberto gets in behind the Sporting defence down the right-hand side and he has Suarez up in support, but his first-time cross on the run has too much on it for the Uruguayan who can’t prevent it from going out of play for a throw-in on the far side.
74'
J. Silva enters the game and replaces Fábio Coentrão.
Jonathan Silva also comes on to replace Coentrao, who has perhaps been taken off by Jorge Jesus before he picks up a second yellow card.
73'
Bruno César enters the game and replaces M. Acuña.
A double change for Sporting now with Acuna, who’s been unusually quiet today, going off to be replaced by Bruno Cesar.
71'
HUGE CHANCE FOR SPORTING!! What a chance for Sporting as Roberto gives the ball away inside his own half before Dost lays it off to Fernandes inside the penalty box, but the midfielder’s powerful drive is straight at the onrushing ter Stegen, who makes himself big and beats the ball away.
69'
Nélson Semedo gets yellow.
Semedo now goes into the book for a poor challenge on Battaglia, which draws loud, ironic cheers from the home fans.
68'
Nearly a disaster at the back for Barcelona as ter Stegen fails to get anywhere near Coentrao’s cross and Dost nods it back into a dangerous area, but fortunately for the keeper there are no Sporting players anywhere near the ball and Barcelona can clear it away.
66'
Messi does go for goal but can only curl the ball over the bar, before Suarez draws a relatively simple save from Patricio with a well-struck low shot in the next passage of play.
64'
The referee pulls play back for a Barcelona free-kick after Messi was unable to make the most of the advantage. The home fans are unhappy with the decision but it was certainly a foul and Messi will fancy this position, 25 yards out just to the right of centre.
62'
Acuna, who has already been booked, hurls abuse at the referee for not awarding him a free-kick after he’d run the ball out of play under pressure from Semedo. Sporting will need to keep their cool if they are to have a chance of getting anything from this game as they already have six players in the book.
60'
The way this game is opening up may well suit Barcelona but it could also play into the hands of Sporting, with the pace of Acuna and Martins out wide.
58'
S. Coates gets yellow.
Another booking for Sporting, this time for Coates for tripping his former Liverpool teammate Suarez. Barcelona are not too happy though as Iniesta looked as though he was about to play Messi in on goal had referee Hategan played an advantage.
57'
The game is starting to open up now which could suit Barcelona, and Messi is only denied by a wonderful sliding tackle from Mathieu inside the penalty box having been played in on goal with a lovely pass from the outside of Suarez’s right boot.
55'
Despite their dominance Barcelona are perhaps lucky to still be ahead as Rakitic pulls Dost to ground at the back post, but the referee ignores the striker’s appeals for a penalty
54'
The whistles are continuing whenever Barcelona have the ball but Ernesto Valverde looks far more relaxed and his side look extremely comfortable, despite the atmosphere being created by the home fans.
53'
C. Piccini gets yellow.
Piccini becomes the latest Sporting player to go into the referee’s book having pulled back Iniesta. The home fans aren’t too happy though and the whistles are ringing out around the stadium as Barcelona knock the ball around at the back with ease.
51'
That goal has certainly rattled Sporting as they now have to chase this game and can longer sit back and soak up the pressure as they did for almost all of the first half.
49'
S. Coates is unfortunate, scores an own goal!
GOOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLL!!! Messi does swing in the free-kick and it somehow finds it’s way into the six yard box, where it bounces off Coates and onto Suarez, who knows very little about as it bounces back onto Coates and past the wrong-footed Patricio into the back of the net.
48'
M. Acuña gets yellow.
Semedo wins his side a free-kick having been blocked off by Acuna and the Sporting winger is shown a yellow card. Messi will look to swing this free-kick into the middle now from a wide position on the right-hand side.
46'
Kick-off! Suarez gets the second half underway for Barcelona.
45' +1
Sporting win a free-kick for handball against Semedo as the fourth official indicates there will be two minutes of added time. They are unable to make anything of the set piece though and that might be their last opportunity of the half.
44'
B. Dost enters the game and replaces S. Doumbia.
Doumbia’s night goes from bad to worse now as he’s forced to leave the field with an injury picked while diving to try and win a free-kick. The imposing figure of Bas Dost comes on in his place.
43'
WHAT A BLOCK!! Coentrao, the man on loan from Real Madrid, makes an outstanding block to deny Messi after the Argentine had cut back onto his right foot and opened up a shooting opportunity six yards out from a tight angle on the right-hand side.
40'
S. Doumbia gets yellow.
Doumbia is now shown a yellow card for what was a pretty obvious dive.
39'
Martins drives forward down the right-hand side before sliding a pass inside to Doumbia, but the striker knocks the ball forward before hurling himself to the ground in theatrical fashion. He looks to have hurt himself but the referee is waiting to show him a yellow card when he gets back to his feet.
36'
Close!! Pique gets up well at the back post to head Messi’s free-kick back across the six yard box towards Suarez at the far post, but former Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu makes a crucial interception, flicking the ball away with his head as Suarez prepares to attempt a bicycle kick.
34'
Barcelona still look very comfortable in possession but they don’t look particularly threatening in the final third, with Sporting doing a good job of crowding both Messi and Suarez out whenever they get on the ball.
32'
Sporting are awarded another free-kick, this time 35 yards out from the Barcelona goal and this time there did appear to be contact from Pique on Rodrigo Battaglia. Fernando, though, can only fire the free-kick straight into the wall.
30'
Messi is well tackled by William Carvalho who then skips past Busquets before throwing himself to the floor in spectacular fashion. The referee buys it though and awards the home side a free-kick to relieve the pressure.
28'
Double chance!! The first real sight of goal for Barcelona now as Roberto slips the ball into Suarez, who is denied at the near post by Patricio before regaining possession and picking out Messi with a chipped cross into the middle, only for the Argentine to head the ball straight at the Sporting keeper.
26'
Fábio Coentrão gets yellow.
Coentrao, who isn’t the most popular man amongst Barcelona fans anyway given his ties to Real Madrid, now goes into the book for a cynical challenge on Nelson Semedo.
25'
Iniesta plays a smart one-two with Suarez on the left-hand edge of the penalty area and subsequently wins his side a corner, but Umtiti is penalised for a push on Fabio Coentrao in the middle and the opportunity passes for the visitors.
22'
Iniesta now plays an angled ball towards Roberto which is far too heavy and bounces straight out of play for a goal kick. Ernesto Valverde looks slightly bemused as he heads back to his seat to get a drink.
20'
Barcelona haven’t really got going yet and Sporting are doing an extremely good job of frustrating them, remaining compact and not trying anything too expansive. Umtiti does have to stand up tall to make a good block on Fernandes’ powerful 20-yard strike though.
18'
Barcelona break forward immediately afterwards though and Messi plays Jordi Alba clean through on goal, but the flag goes up against him for offside, much to the relief of Suarez who proceeds to miss an open goal having been given the ball by the left-back.
17'
Close! The closest either side has come so far comes from the Sporting right-back Cristiano Piccini, who cuts inside onto his left foot and fires a powerful effort towards goal from 30 yards out, which flies narrowly over Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s goal.
15'
It looks as though Barcelona have settled in to a 4-4-1-1 formation in the first few minutes of this game, with Messi playing just in behind Suarez, who promptly fires a first-time effort comfortably over the bar from 25 yards out.
13'
Seydou Doumbia wins his side a free-kick 35 yards out from goal with a neat turn on Gerard Pique, prompting the centre-back to stick out an arm and pull him to ground. Barcelona eventually clear, albeit unconvincingly, following Marcos Acuna’s floated ball in though.
11'
The home fans certainly aren’t going to make this easy for Barcelona, they’re making plenty of noise and creating an intense atmosphere inside the stadium.
9'
It’s been a little bit of a scrappy start to this game and Barcelona are now awarded a free-kick close to the corner flag following a foul on Sergi Roberto, which he certainly made the most of. Messi’s delivery is a dangerous one from the free-kick but is just too deep and goes out of play before Suarez can head it back in.
7'
Now Suarez goes flying in late on Bruno Fernandes having given the ball away cheaply, and is pretty fortunate to escape a yellow card himself. The home fans certainly believe he should’ve been booked, greeting the referee’s decision to let him off with a loud chorus of whistles.
6'
Gelson Martins gets yellow.
Busquets is now on the receiving end of a high boot from young winger Gelson Martins, who is shown the first yellow card of the game.
4'
Lionel Messi gets his first chance to run at the Sporting defence having been picked out down the left-hand edge of the penalty area by Sergio Busquets, but the flag goes up against him for offside.
2'
As you might expect it’s Barcelona who are enjoying the majority of the early possession, working it across the field from right to left before Samuel Umtiti’s pass towards Luis Suarez is just too heavy and rolls through to Rui Patricio.
1'
Kick-off! Sporting get the game underway.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of the Champions League Group D match between Sporting CP and Barcelona at the Jose Alvalade.
Sporting made hard work of their opening round win over Olympiakos, very nearly squandering a 3-0 half-time lead as they conceded twice after the 88 minute mark before eventually holding on for three points.
Barcelona secured their win over Juventus in much more routine fashion, with Lionel Messi scoring twice, his first goals ever past Gianluigi Buffon, to help his side to a 3-0 victory.
Their domestic form has been equally as impressive, having won all six of their opening games in La Liga, scoring 20 goals in the process, but they have lost three of their last four Champions League away games.
Subs: Figueiredo, Petrovic, Ruiz, Salin, Silva, Cesar, Dost
Barcelona (4-3-3): ter Stegen; Semedo, Pique, Umtiti, Alba; Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta; Messi, L. Suarez, Roberto
Subs: Cillessen, D. Suarez, Mascherano, Paulinho, Digne, Andre Gomes, Vidal
Both sides won their opening game and are only separated by goal difference at the top of the group, with Olympiacos and Juventus sitting in third and fourth respectively.
Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde meanwhile has chosen to leave out Gerard Deulofeu altogether, preferring Sergi Roberto in the front three alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
Former Newcastle and Roma striker Seydou Doumbia gets the nod ahead of Bas Dost to start as the lone striker for Sporting, with Marcos Acuna and Gelson Martins offering a threat in wide areas.
The sides last met in the group stages of the 2008 Champions League, when Lionel Messi scored as Barcelona cruised to a 5-2 win in the Portuguese capital.
The players are making their way out onto the pitch, led by referee Ovidiu Hategan. Kick-off is not far away now.
Half-time: Sporting CP 0-0 Barcelona
A somewhat frustrating half for Barcelona who have failed to create too many clear-cut opportunities against an extremely well organised Sporting side, with Coentrao making a crucial block to deny Messi from the only real chance for the Catalan giants.
Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde doesn’t have too many game-changing options on his bench, and will be hoping his side can improve significantly going forward after the break, while Jorge Jesus will be asking for more of the same from his side at the back.
Full-time: Sporting CP 0-1 Barcelona
Not the most convincing performance from Barcelona but they do make it two wins out of two in the Champions League group stages thanks to Sebastian Coates’ second half own goal, coming from Lionel Messi’s free-kick from the right-hand touchline. That’s all from us for today, thanks for joining us and we hope you can join us again soon.
