The game has petered out now. Benfica gave up long ago and Basel have no interest in giving them even a sniff at scoring a goal.
90'
The fourth official has indicated two minutes of addtional time. Two minutes before Benfica can be put out of their misery.
87'
Basel almost make it six! Samaris takes a heavy touch on the edge of his own box and Jimenez latches on to fire it goalwards. It is low and with pace but Cesar gets down quickly to save it.
86'
Basel finally look content to see this game out now. They continue to move the ball around the midfield and back four without really pushing for a route forward. It's been a very easy night for them.
83'
Basel happily passing the ball around the halfway line. Benfica look completely deflated. This has been a beating they will struggle to forget.
80'
S. Dié enters the game and replaces É. Balanta.
Substitution Éder Balanta makes way for Sereso Geoffroy Gonzaroua Dié.
76'
B. Riveros has scored a goal for Basel!
Benfica have been poor all night and Basel are making them pay dearly. Blás Riveros bursts into the box but his curling effort is blocked. It deflects into the path of Jimenez who is dispossessed quickly. Unfortunately for Benfica, it falls straight back to the feet of Riveros who slides with his left foot to fire high into the centre of the goal. Cesar got a touch to it but was unable to keep it out. 5-0.
75'
Basel come close to making it five. The shot across the face of goal smashes off the woodward and falls into the left of the box for a second attempt. It is curled goalwards but again bounces off the woodwork and away from goal.
74'
A. Samaris enters the game and replaces A. Živković.
M. Elyounoussi enters the game and replaces D. Oberlin.
Andrija Živković evening is up. Andreas Samaris is the third and final change for Benfica.
Benfica's match winnerDimitri Oberlin is off to a raucous round of applause by the home fans. Mohamed Elyounoussi replaces him.
73'
Basel come forward in numbers again, apparently not content with a four goal cushion. Steffen fires towards goal from the left of the box which Cesar palms back into the danger area. It bounces around before being cleared away but Benfica do not look confident at all in that back line.

Description
69'
D. Oberlin has scored a goal for Basel!
Dimitri Oberlin makes it four. Benfica are being beaten while they are down here. Oberlin races onto a pass, which he knocks beyond the sliding Luisao with apparent ease, oozing confidence. Cesar comes out to close the space down on the edge of the box but Oberling dispatches is shot straight through the keeper's legs and into the back of the net.
68'
B. Riveros enters the game and replaces R. Petretta.
First change of the night for Basel as well. Raoul Petretta is replaced by Blás Riveros.
67'
H. Seferović enters the game and replaces Jonas.
Benfica make a change up front. Jonas is off and Haris Seferović replaces him.
62'
André Almeida goes off after a red card!
This night goes from bad to worse for Benfica. Andre Almeida beats Petretta on the right of the Basel box and races to the byline. The winger appears to pull him back but the referee gives nothing. Almeida decides to take matters into his own hands and makes a reckless lunging tackle on the Basel player, completely missing the ball but taking out his man. Straight Red Card. This could get ugly.
61'
Benfica's unbeaten run against Swiss opposition in Europe's top club competition looks set to finally end and Basel have fully deserved this lead. Benfica haven't had a whiff of goal and most of that is down to excellent organisation and defending by the Basel players.
59'
E. Salvio gets yellow.
Penalty goal scored by R. van Wolfswinkel for Basel!
Ricky van Wolfswinkel takes it. Wolfswinkel scores, firing the ball into the centre-left of the goal with Cesar diving the wrong way. Three goals to nil for Basel and there is surely no way back for Benfica now,
Yellow card Eduardo Antonio Salvio
58'
PENALTY! Oberlin does brilliantly to dart between Ljubomir Fejsa and Jardel, with the former bringing him down as he ran in on goal. A big chance to seal the three points for Basel...
57'
A cross is swung high into the box from the left for Benfica, but Tomas Vaclik climbs above everyone to catch it confidently. Time is running out for Benfica and they have showed no signs they can get back into this.
55'
A. Živković gets yellow.
T. Xhaka gets yellow.
Andrija Živković is also booked for his involvement.
Yellow card for Taulant Xhaka for his involvement in a bit of a scuffle on the right of the pitch.
52'
Benfica try to break forward but it almost seems like Basel are two steps ahead of them. There are far too many bodies behind the ball for Benfica to threaten, and Grimaldo's attempted pass is easily snuffed out.
50'
R. Petretta gets yellow.
Raoul Petretta goes into the referee's book for blatantly pulling on the arm of Salvio as the Benfica man tried to break forward.
49'
Close! Steffen plays a brilliant pass into the Benfica box for Lang. He strides forward before firing a low effort towards the bottom left of Cesar's goal. It is just narrowly wide with Cesar well beaten. Benfica are living dangerously here. Basel continue to look the more threatening side.
47'
The first chance of the second half falls Basel's way. Steffen chips the ball to the left of the box for Petretta. He tries to fire it into the near post but Cesar reads it well and parries it away.
46'
E. Salvio enters the game and replaces F. Cervi.
Franco Cervi is off as a Half-Time substitution. On comes Eduardo Antonio Salvio.
We're back underway. Benfica have it all to do if they are to get anything out of this tie.
45' +1
M. Akanji gets yellow.
Manuel Akanji receives a yellow card.
41'
Another hopeful Benfica cross is swung into the Basel box, and again it is easily cleared away. The counter is then on again for Basel. Lang has it on the right of the box and fires it towards the top right. It is straight up and over the bar. A let off for Benfica as Basel were pouring forward in numbers.
39'
Taulant Xhaka is over the free-kick just on the edge of the 18 yard box. It is up and over the wall with real pace but it is never coming down quick enough to trouble Cesar.
38'
Still Benfica push and still Basel hold firm. Another opportunity to break forward as Oberlin races down the left wing. He finds his way to the edge of the Benfica box but is pulled to ground by Luisao. Benfica free-kick in a very dangerous position...
34'
Basel threaten to break forward on the counter-attack again but this time Steffen's pass is just behind Oberlin. They are getting very little of the ball but Basel look the far more threatening side whenever they come forward.
32'
Benfica are showing a little more intent to get forward after that second goal but still have yet to really threaten this Basel defence. They are closing the space down well and not giving the Benfica attackers any time on the ball.
28'
The corner is met at the near post by Luisao, who tries to flick it towards the six yard box. It deflects of a Basel shirt before falling towards the penalty spot, where Jardel tries his luck on the half-volley. It is sliced up and over the bar. Basel never looked in any real danger of conceding though.
27'
Benfica win a corner on the right, Balanta again getting the better of Zivkovic at the expense of a corner.
25'
Benfica look toothless in attack. Everything they are throwing at Basel is being dealt with comfortably. Basel are happy to hold them out and take their opportunities on the counter.
20'
D. Oberlin has scored a goal for Basel! Assist by R. Steffen.
The Benfica corner comes to nothing and suddenly the counter-attack is on. Steffen races forward before turning inside and slotting the ball into the path of Dimitri Oberlin. The striker races away from the chasing defenders and has only the goalkeeper to beat, which he does, slotting the ball into the bottom left of the goal from the right of the box. Two shots on target, two goals.
Renato Steffen breaks away with the ball after a Benfica corner is cleared, before turning inside from the right wing and splitting the Benfica defence with a pass into the path of Oberlin, who dispatches his shot perfectly into the bottom-left of the goal.
19'
A rare sight of goal for Benfica and Alex Grimaldo arguably should have done better. He breaks into the box from the left wing and hesitates on what to do next. In the end, he tries to pull the ball across the box instead of shooting, which is easily blocked out for a corner by a defender.
17'
Still a lot of midfield possession from both sides with nothing going in the final third. Both sides are sloppy and almost lazy with their passing. A very passive game so far with no real threat from either side since the opening minutes and goal.
15'
Very little going on at the moment. Basel are moving the ball around patiently in midfield but are showing no real intent to try and push forward.
12'
A clever pass from midfield attempts to slice through the Basel defence. It is well cut out but the ball is still alive for Zivkovic to chase. Eder Balanta beats him to it and plays the ball off the midfielder for a goal kick.
9'
Now it is Benfica's turn to charge down the wing. A pass from the left of the box is aimed towards the waiting Jonas in the box. He gets a good connection on the volley but it is blocked by Manuel Akanji, who read the danger well.
7'
Basel bypass the Benfica midfield with apparent ease. Marek Suchy is given plenty of time from his defensive position to pick a pass, and he fires it down the line for Renato Steffen to chase who gets to the edge of the Benfica box. Ricky van Wolfswinkel is waiting in the middle but the cross has too much height on it. Benfica look a little vulnerable to the counter attack on that showing.
6'
Neither team finding any real rhythm to their game at the moment. The goal has done nothing to change the flow of the game as Benfica continue to push forward and control the play.
2'
M. Lang has scored a goal for Basel!
A first chance to get the ball into the box from Benfica. Andrija Zivkovic with a long throw in from the right. None of his teammates really look like trying to get on the end of it and the attack comes to nothing.
A first chance for Basel and a goal! Julio Cesar does well to close down an onrushing Basel striker but the shot takes a wicked deflection. The ball eventually finds Michael Lang in space on the right of the box, who has time to pick his spot and roll the ball through the legs of Zivkovic and into the bottom left of the goal. There was a lot of luck involved with that goal but Basel won't care and their fans won't either.

Benfica get us underway, kicking left to right.
Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s UEFA Champion’s League group stage game between Basel and Benfica at St Jakob-Park.
Basel endured a difficult start to their Champion’s League campaign, being soundly beaten 3-0 by Manchester United. It might not be a must-win tie so early on in the competition for the Swiss champions but it is certainly a game they cannot afford to lose.
Defeat tonight could see them facing a mountain to climb in their bid to reach the last-16 stage. A win, however, could be the morale boost the club need to get back on track in the Champions League as well as the Swiss Super League, where they six points adrift of leaders BSC Young Boys in their bid to defend their title.
Primeira Liga champions Benfica will be eager to get their first three points of the Champions League campaign on the board after suffering defeat at the hands of CSKA Moscow in their opening game of the group stage. That was followed by their first league defeat of the season at the hands of Boavista.
The Portuguese side boast the record of never losing to a Swiss team in Europe’s biggest competition and will be hopeful of continuing that run tonight. Benfica have won four and drew five of their meetings with Swiss sides, dating back to their two meetings with FC La Chaux-de-Fonds in the 1964/65 European Champion Clubs’ Cup.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this evening…
Raphaël Wicky makes only one change to the Basel side that started in the 1-0 victory against Zurich at the weekend. Blas Riveros drops to the bench with Raoul Petretta starting in his place.
Benfica make two changes to the side that beat Pacos de Ferreira at the weekend. Jardel replaces Ruben Dias at centre-back and Raul Jimenez starts up front in place of Haris Seferovic.
The two sides are lining up out on the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
It's half-time in Switzerland and the home side are firmly in control. Michael Lang fired Basel in front after two minutes, before Dimitri Oberlin doubled the advantage. Can Benfica find a way back into this one? They've got a mountain to climb.
The teams are back out on the pitch ahead of the start of the second half.
FULL-TIME: BASEL 5-0 BENFICA
A complete and solid performance by Basel and Benfica were well and truly beaten. Their unbeaten run against Swiss opposition comes to a very painful and humiliating end and Basel fully deserved their reward. There was a little fortune for their first goal but three goals of counter-attacking class destroyed the Benfica defence. Wolfswnkel also joined in the scoring from the penalty spot. Benfica lost a man to a red card for a reckless tackle and it could have been a far far bigger scoreline were it not for the saves of Julio Cesar. Brilliant from Basel. Benfica well rooted to the bottom of the Group A.
