In the Europa League they have knocked out Olympiakos and Hapoel Be’er Sheva after finishing third in their Champions League group, however this is the first time they have had to come from behind in a tie this season.

Both clubs have been given suspended bans from European competition by UEFA after crowd trouble marred their Europa League quarter-final first leg in France last Thursday. The bans are suspended for two years and both clubs have also been fined, the game which ended 2-1 to Lyon, kicked off 45 minutes late.

However Lyon’s troubles didn’t end at Parc OL last week. Their visit to Bastia on Sunday was delayed after a group of home fans attempted to attack the Lyon players, and despite coming out to play, the first half continued disturbances resulted in that match being called off. Not the best preparation ahead of tonight's crucial Europa League tie.

An excellent opening 45 minutes of football comes to an end and it is all square on the night, however Lyon have a 3-2 lead on aggregate. Besiktas took the lead through Anderson Talisca, however the goal machine that is Alexandre Lazazette, equalised for Lyon with a superb finish to score a vital away goal for the French side.

Besiktas took the lead through Anderson Talisca, however Alexandre Lacazette scored an equaliser just a few minutes later. The Lyon struck the post late on in the first half. However, Talisca scored a vital second goal for Besikas to make the tie level on aggregate and take the game to penalties.
We saw 12 excellent penalties from the two sides, before Lopes made two fine saves which gave Gonalons the opportunity to send his side through to the next round. Heartbreak for Besiktas but joy for Lyon who look to become the first French club to win this competition.
